Interview with Amalie Nielsen

Interview with Amalie Nielsen
Please meet Amalie Nielsen, 31, mother to 9-month-old Billie Uma, and partner to Frederik, 32. Together, they are a family of three living in the heart of Frederiksberg, where their spacious, character-filled apartment provides the perfect setting for both everyday moments and playful exploration.
For Amalie, motherhood has unfolded as something deeply intuitive and fulfilling, almost like stepping into a version of herself she always hoped existed.

How has your journey into motherhood been so far?

Amazing. I feel like I’m the version of myself I’ve always longed for - not even knowing this existed. It’s a natural part of me to be a mom, something I always dreamed about. She has been a very easy ‘go along’ baby from the beginning.

What are your “must-have” routines or rituals during the day?

At this stage it must be: a shower, a coffee and a walk

When did you first start using a baby carrier?

We started from the very beginning. I wanted to practice the carrier with her when my partner was around. The first few weeks we did little things like taking a walk with the carrier, driving up north for a lunch - this way doing it on my own wouldn’t feel scary.

How do you use baby carrying in your everyday life?

We always bring a carrier around. This way we have the option of giving her comfort being close or simply enjoy being able to see everything from up high. I like to have it around if she becomes tired of sitting in the stroller, often a change in scenery is enough to make her calm again.

Do you notice a difference in your daughter, Billie Uma, when being carried?

She is so calm and noisy on the world passing by. It’s always been like a safe space for her when out, but also at home if closeness is needed.

How would you describe Copenhagen as a place to raise a baby?

Amazing. The only struggle is the coffee prices, haha. It’s a city designed to have babies with you, you can easily stroll with them and all the playgrounds and parks makes it easy to entertain and learn.

Do you have favorite spots in Copenhagen you love going to with your Billie Uma?

I love the cafe Alletiders, they have great space to bring Billie Uma along. When it’s all about play Bette cafe is great as it’s made to bring your baby and has toys etc. I also love to bring her to ‘landbrugshøjskolens’ garden - packing up snacks and a blanket we can spend hours outside.

What are you most looking forward to this summer with your daughter?

Being able to see her grow with summer. We are entering milestone era, soon she’ll be crawling and then walking next. I also love taking her along our travels, it’s funny how you suddenly see everything with new eyes through your tiny person.

Thank you, Amalie!
